Student Writing Awards featuring poet and fiction writer Jim Daniels

You are invited to a reading by nationally-acclaimed poet Jim Daniels, as part of IU South Bend English Department’s annual Writing Awards and Literary Event.
Jim Daniels’ poems have appeared in the Pushcart Prize and Best American Poetry anthologies, on Garrison Keillor’s “Writer’s Almanac,” and on the roof of a race car. A Professor of English at Carnegie Mellon, in Pittsburgh, PA, his most recent books include a collection of poetry, Having a Little Talk with Capital P Poetry, and a collection of short stories, Trigger Man. In a nice coincidence, his short film, Mr. Pleasant, will be playing at the River Bend Film Festival in South Bend on Saturday, April 14 at 4:55 p.m. in the Century Center.The English Department Student Writing Awards, for which Jim Daniels served as a judge, will also be presented at this event. In addition, Analecta, IUSB’s student literary-arts magazine, will be hot off the presses
After Jim Daniels’ reading, there will be a reception, with refreshments and a chance to talk to the writer and creative writing students. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
