The annual conference for the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) will be held in Washington, D.C. this week, Feb. 2-6.

Members of the English Club held a book sale in the fall to raise money to go to the conference, and eight IUSB students will be attending!

Prof. Kelcey Parker’s book, For Sale By Owner, will be released at AWP, and she’ll do an Author’s Signing on Friday from 1:00-2:00.

IUSB English Major and leader of the English Club, Nicole Koroch, had two poems accepted for publication at Chiron Review! “Tokens” and “The Sound of the Wall” will appear in a forthcoming issue. Congratulations, Nicole!

The English Club meets tomorrow, Saturday, January 22 at 4:30 in DW 3001.

Eight members of the English Club will attend the AWP Writers’ Conference in Washington D.C. in a couple weeks. Their trips will be partially funded by proceeds from the English Club book sale.

Announcing the judge and guest author for this year’s Student Writing Awards: Joyce Hinnefeld, author of Stranger Here Below and In Hovering Flight. The awards ceremony will be Saturday, April 16. More info to come!

A message from the English Club:

The first Saturday of every month the English Club is hosting a writing workshop at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe from noon-two(ish). This upcoming first Saturday of November (11/6/10) will be our second meeting. Poetry! Short fiction! Scribbles on a napkin, hand, or the little tab that holds rolled silverware together at restaurants!  any forms of creative writing are welcome. If you are interested please bring copies to pass out, and for longer works, please send them to Mitch Robinson at mfrobins@umail.iu.edu to be e-mailed to other members of the group.
