Calling Michiana Writers:
IUSB is launching the first-of-its-kind male monologues project this spring at IU South Bend. We’re soliciting short stories about men’s lives for a readers’ theater production that is set for April 18, 2013, in Wiekamp 1001 at 7 pm. The purpose of the production is to provide a forum for men to tell the truth about what it’s like to grow up — or live — as a male in Michiana, and for all of us to listen and learn. We’re betting that your experiences are more complicated, richer, contradictory, tender, outrageous, resistant (add your own adjective!) than anything popular culture tells us about “masculinity.” Think about your experiences as a child, a teenager, a lover, a fighter, a student, a partner, an athlete, a brother or son or father or grandfather … the list is long!
Stories can be submitted anonymously to our website, where you’ll also find writing tips for capturing powerful experiences in two pages or fewer.
We’ll be accepting stories until mid-March, and then we’ll have a call for performers later in march for the readers’ theater-style production in April.
Information about the submission process and the production is on our website, or “like” us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/themanologues?fref=ts
